Film Notes

This Dr. R. Portegg-film with Rosa Porten in the leading role unfortunately is incomplete. But what a joy to watch Isa’s plucky pranks to shake off the landowner whom her father favors as her fiancée. With gusto she acts out every possible cliché about unwieldy country girls, exposing her intended fiancée as an wimpy prig, who does not know how to handle his own problems (a recurring motif in dramas and comedies written by Rosa Porten). The role includes an appealing cross-dressing part with comical twists and turns implied in the genre.
