Film Notes

Contemporary programme booklet (from the archives of the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek, Berlin) The Film Primadonna had its premiere on 5 December 1913 in Berlin. Unfortunately, no complete materials seem to have sur- vived. Two fragments are known today: an incomplete print of the American release version (255 m) in the George Eastman House collection, and an even shorter version of the Dutch release (89 m) in the Nederlands Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. Both fragments show scenes from the first of the actual four acts. One scene of the Amsterdam copy was additional to the American fragment. Another two scenes were more complete, and have been used as replacements for footage of the same scenes in the George Eastman House fragment. The resulting cut is now 278 m, still nowhere near the original length of 1429 meters of this once much longer and complex film. […] This is all that is known to be left of The Film Primadonna.
