Film Notes

Boireau is in love with Gribouilette, the neighbour’s daughter. But the girl’s father views him with suspicion. A dispute over the boundary hedge becomes, for Gribouilette’s father, the excuse to unleash his anger and attack the neighbour. Boireau responds angrily, whilst Gribouilette vainly searches for pacification. In the end, to obtain the paternal consent, the two lovers fake a suicide. Only in front of the pleas of the terrible neighbour, Boireau agrees not to die and lives happily with his Gribouilette.
